Have you heard about Rijeka Carnival? We have to admit that we didn’t until this year.

You know, after walking on the Polish and Czech rocks, we missed the water. The salty kind. A quick look on airbnb and it was clear. Unfortunately there was no last minute room available for two adventurers in Slovenia and the beloved town of Piran, so Croatia was the logical choice. We only had three free days so Rijeka won out as the closest destination.

After a day of relaxing by the water, we thought we’d head into town for a quiet dinner by the water in the evening. What a surprise awaited us! Right after arriving in the center of Rijeka and parking, we saw Miss Toadstool next to the entrance. Drums and music were sounding in the distance, and within minutes we were engulfed by a crowd of incredibly nice and smiling people in all sorts of costumes. What had been a quiet dinner had suddenly become a walk with a parade and a bit of street photography.

Anyway, we don’t regret anything!
