Evening street photography in Berlin
A few hours of free time before a work meeting. The city is melting away in its 37 degrees Celsius, but at least for a while grabbing the camera and going hunting for Berlin street photography is irresistible. 😊
Of course, there’s no time to go around the city’s main sights, but this city has such a special atmosphere that you can take an interesting street photography pretty much anywhere. A short train journey closer to the centre and a rush out of the carriage resembling a red-hot oven on Skalitzer Street. Many photographers take iconic photos of the little PhotoAutomatic here, but there’s no need to go taking photos like everyone else. Just turn around, look around, and the fire truck caught my eye a lot more. After a few minutes, a stranger lady on a scooter looking up in anticipation of a sign. By the way, a much better photo of the PhotoAutomatic, in my opinion, you can take on AndreasStrasse and as a bonus you will have amazing graffiti. On the way there you can cross the SchillingerBrucke bridge, from which you have a super view of the Berlin TV Tower.
Walk a few hundred metres along the river through tunnels and under bridges, where you’ll be met with the typical big city smell and mess, but that can come in the form of a half dismantled bike, and you’re in the centre near AlexanderPlatz. The sun is really low now, rendering irresistible silhouettes of statues on the roofs of buildings. You’re just a short walk from the TV tower and yet in the historic centre, so a photo of modernity and history side by side lends itself.
After sunset and the meeting, I sit down for a little something to eat in the bar garden. Next to me, an older couple discusses their day over a glass of wine. Typical Berliners.
As I focus my lens I notice that we are sitting across the street from the firehouse. My quick Berlin street photography began and ends with the firemen. I hope that doesn’t mean we won’t have personal encounters in this sweltering city. 🔥
